MARSHFIELD – Junior American Legion State Tournament action at Marshfield’s Hackman Field, July 19-22, was suspended Friday night and all day Saturday. Play resumed on Sunday and the Marshfield Junior Legion Blue Demons went 1-1. Marshfield was beat by Chippewa Falls 7-1 in a game that was supposed to be played Friday night. The Blue Demons were outhit 10-4. Chase Higgins took the loss for Marshfield.

The Blue Demons came back later in the day to rout a 33-4 Plover team that beat Marshfield six times during the regular season. Marshfield scored twice in the first inning and two more times in the second.

Plover tied the game with three runs in the second and one more in the third. Marshfield grabbed the lead back with a seven-run fourth inning. The Black Sox pulled to within two with five runs in their half of the fourth inning, then tied the game again with two runs in the fifth. But Marshfield got two runs across in the top of the seventh inning – one on an error and the other on a wild pitch.

Each team pounded out 15 hits, and each team committed three errors. Nick Urban had three hits and three runs batted in. Logan Homolka drove in two runs on three hits. Urban picked up the win with two-and-two-thirds innings of relief.

Marshfield plays Fond du Lac in an elimination game Monday morning as the storm-delayed tournament resumes.
