MARSHFIELD – After knocking off first-place Wausau on July 16, the Marshfield Chaparrals lost to the team they helped into the top spot in the Dairyland League. The Everest Merchants, who leapfrogged into first with the Wausau loss to Marshfield, went into Hackman Field on July 17 and came from behind to beat the Chaps 5-2.
Everest took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Marshfield grabbed the lead with two runs in the third inning. The Chaps held that lead until the sixth, when Hunter Korger gave up a three-run home run to Ryan Hubacek that gave Everest a lead they did not surrender. Connor Jasurda gave up one more run in the eighth inning. Korger took the loss in four and one-third innings of relief. He gave up three runs on five hits.
At the plate, Korger had a double and an RBI. Shawn O’Connell singled and doubled.
The Chaps dropped to 7-7.
