MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield American Legion Post 54 Blue Devils ended their regular season on a high note on July 17, defeating Eau Claire Post 53 9-8 at Marshfield’s Hackman Field.

Marshfield grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, then added one more in the second. The Blue Devils then broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. But, Eau Claire fought back, with three runs in the top half of the fifth inning. The Blue Devils answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. But Post 53 would not go away, scoring five times in the sixth inning to pull to within one.

Jaeger Johnson came on in relief of Preston Wagner and retired four-straight Eau Claire batters to end the game.

Riley Boushack, the team’s leading hitter, had two singles, a triple, and two runs batted in. Isaiah Baierl drove in three runs. Devyn Palmer singled, doubled, and knocked in a pair of runs. Eli Drexler was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The win gives Marshfield some momentum going into their regional tournament at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point. The Blue Devils open the double-elimination tournament on July 19 at noon against D.C. Everest.
