Junior Legion Blue Demons lose in regional championship round

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield American Junior Legion Blue Demons lost their Triple A regional championship round game to Plover on July 15, 11-7, at Holland Field in Nekoosa.
The Blue Demons grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but Plover came back and scored four times in the bottom half of that inning. Marshfield jumped out in front again with a four-run fourth inning. Plover answered again with a three-run fourth to grab a 7-6 lead. The Blue Demons tied the game in the fifth, but Plover went ahead again with four runs in the fifth.
There were 21 hits in the game – 11 for Plover and 10 for Marshfield. The Blue Demons also committed two critical errors.
Nick Urban had two hits and three RBIs. Riley Bauman had two hits, including a two-run home run. Logan Homolka singled and doubled. Ky Swanson doubled.
Chase Higgins took the loss. Marshfield is 21-7 heading into the Junior Legion State Tournament at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield, July 19-22. Plover now qualifies for that tournament, and will face Bayport in the opening round at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Marshfield gets an automatic bid as the tournament host, and will play Chippewa Falls Friday night at 7 p.m.
