For the City Times

WAUSAU – After falling behind 2-0 early, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (18-13) battled back to defeat the Wisconsin Woodchucks (17-15) at home by a final of 6-4 on June 28.

The Woodchucks jumped out to an early lead on a pair of runs in the second inning. Later in the sixth, the Rafters answered with a big, five-run inning to take the lead. Peter Matt, Harry Fullerton, Josh Nicoloff, and Matt Oldham all had RBIs in the frame.

Wisconsin got one back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Rafters extended their lead to 6-3 an inning later on an RBI single by Osvaldo Tovalin. The Woodchucks threatened with another run in the seventh to pull within two, but Brayden Bonner closed out the game for a 6-4 win.

Rapids starter Zack Hunsicker struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings to earn the win. Dylan Mulvihill pitched one inning of relief and Bonner got the save with 2.1 innings of work. Jose Varela is credited with the loss out of the bullpen for the Woodchucks.
