Blue Devils take two of three

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield American Legion Post 54 Blue Devils won two of three games to close out the third week of June.

On June 18, the Blue Devils beat the Wausau Post 10 Bulldogs 8-1 at Hackman Field in Marshfield. Post 54 scored four times in the first inning. Wausau scored its only run in the top of the fifth inning, but Marshfield came back with four more in the bottom half of the inning to put the game away. Will Voss picked up the win on the mound. He tossed six innings and gave up one run (earned) on six hits while walking four and striking out seven. Ben Gust singled, doubled, and drove in four runs for the Blue Devils. Riley Boushack went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.

Post 54 lost the next night 5-0 at Plover. Preston Wagner took the loss. He went six innings and gave up five runs (all earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out two. Boushack doubled for Marshfield, and Stratford’s Devyn Palmer went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Marshfield ended the week with a 9-4 at Merrill on June 20. The Blue Devils erupted for seven runs in the top half of the fourth inning. Merrill cut in to that lead with four runs in their half of the inning. Marshfield came back with two runs in their half of the seventh to put the game away.

Neillsville’s Cole Hediger picked up the complete-game win. He gave up four unearned runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out three. Jacob Earll went 2-for-4 and drove in five runs. Luke Erickson was 2-for-4 with two RBI’s. Isaiah Baierl went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Palmer was 3-for-4 with a run driven in.

The Blue Devils were 4-5 through their first nine games of the season.
