Marshfield Sears to close

MARSFIELD – Marshfield’s Sears Store will be closing. Owner Todd Giraud says his last day of business will be July 27.
Giraud has owned the store at 1810 N. Central Avenue since 2014.
He also owns the Sears store in Sparta. Giraud could not comment on why the store was closing, but said an official statement from Sears headquarters in Hoffman Estates, IL, was forthcoming.
Giraud also would not comment on whether the closing was related to last week’s announcement that Transform Holdco LLC has entered into a definitive merger agreement to acquire the outstanding shares of Sears Hometown not owned by ESL Investments, Inc. and its affiliates.
ESL Investments, Inc. and its affiliates, the majority owners of Transform, presently hold 58 percent of the outstanding shares of Sears Hometown. The transaction reunites Sears and Kmart with Sears Hometown, which was spun off from Sears Holdings Corporation in 2012.
Sears Hometown presently maintains a network of 491 Hometown stores and 126 outlet stores located in 49 states, Puerto Rico and Bermuda.
