Chaps take loss to Interwald
By Darren Kieffer
RIB LAKE – The Marshfield Chaparrals took on the Interwald Woodticks on June 9 at Tannery Creek Park in Rib Lake.
The Chaps were hot in the beginning of the game, scoring three runs in the second inning featuring doubles by both Sam Schwanebeck and Hunter Korger.
Interwald answered back quickly in the bottom of the second inning with two runs of their own to tie the score up, 3-3. Starting pitcher – Connor Jasurda – ended the first two innings allowing seven Woodtick hits.
In the top of the third inning, the Chaps bunched up a couple of hits and score on an RBI by Sam Schwanebeck which would fly out in deep right field bringing Bobby Pilz home.
Connor Jasurda controlled the bottom of the third inning, striking out one batter and making a great defensive play on the mound to get Interwald’s Nick Gerstberger out at first base. This resulted in one of the few scoreless innings for the Woodticks.
With bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning for the Chaparrals with zero outs, a double play stunted the Chaps momentum batting, as Connor Jasurda scored the last run for them at the end of the fourth inning.
The Woodticks pulled away from the Chaps in the bottom of the fifth inning where relief pitcher Pilz gave up three runs to give the Woodticks an 8-5 lead, as they capitalized on inaccurate ball thrown to home and the Woodticks scored on a double from Shane Coker.
The game resulted in an 11-5 Chaps loss to the Woodticks. The Interwald pitcher held the Chaps scoreless for the last five innings of the game.
The Chaps were 2-1 after the June 9 matchup.
