MARSHFIELD – Marshfield’s Trevor Schwecke was the 387th selection in this year’s amateur baseball draft. Schwecke was chosen June 5 in the 13th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Trevor is a junior at UW-Milwaukee, and hit .335 for the Panthers this season, with four home runs and 54 runs batted in. Schwecke does have the option of returning to Milwaukee to play for the Panthers for one more season.
Should Trevor sign with the Blue Jays, he would likely be assigned to either their rookie league team in Bluefield, West Virginia or the short-season Class ‘A’ team in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Schwecke is a 2016 graduate of Marshfield High School, and becomes the third Tiger drafted in four years – 2012 graduate Elliot Ashbeck was drafted by San Diego in 2015 and 2014 graduate Daulton Varsho was selected by Arizona in 2017.
Ashbeck, 25, is playing for the Class ‘A’ Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League. In his last 10 appearances as of June 5, Ashbeck has a 1.35 ERA in 20.0 innings, and picked up two wins. Varsho, 22, is batting .270 for the Class ‘AA’ Jackson Generals of the Southern League. Varsho has 50 hits in 50 games as of June 7, with nine home runs, 29 runs batted in, 27 strikeouts and 16 walks.
