WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Formal charges of intentional homicide and child neglect causing death have been filed against a Milladore couple accused of killing their child just hours after he was born in their home.
Marylinn Feher, 22, and Allen Rice, 19, appeared in Wood County court in Wisconsin Rapids June 3, where the charges were announced. Feher faces first-degree intentional homicide and child neglect causing death. Rice also faces child neglect causing death along with a charge of obstructing an officer.
Court documents indicate the couple checked into the Marshfield Medical Center at around 2 a.m. the day the baby died in April. That’s when medical staff informed the police that they had a woman in their care that had just given birth, but they did not know where the baby was.
Officials later searched the parking lot and found the child tied up in a blanket and plastic bag in the trunk of Rice’s car.
Doctors were able to revive the baby for a short time but he died at the hospital just after 4:15 p.m. Autopsy results show the baby was strangled shortly after birth, which Feher admitted to doing in court. Additionally, Feher admitted to hitting the baby’s head on the toilet multiple times.
The couple has claimed they didn’t believe that Feher was pregnant because she had previously been told she would be unable to have children.
A preliminary hearing and arraignment for both Rice and Feher will be held on June 12.
