Marshfield Memorial Day observance planned
For the Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD – Memorial Day in Marshfield means the annual Memorial Day parade and patriotic ceremonies at several of the city’s cemeteries.
Mike Feirer is adjutant at American Legion Post No. 54, and said the ceremonies are a tribute to all of the city’s veterans. “We place a wreath, and then we’ll have a guest speaker. And then I will read off the names of all the deceased from this last year. Then, we’ll get a couple patriotic songs from the Civic Band. So it’s about a 45-minute program.”
Marshfield’s Memorial Day parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at Columbia Park and runs north on Blodgett Avenue to Saint Jospeh’s Avenue, and then up to Hillside Cemetery for the first of the city’s two remembrance ceremonies.
Following that, another ceremony will be held later in the morning at Brooklawn Cemetery just south of Marshfield on old Highway 13.
Then Feirer says, “everyone’s welcome for lunch and some really good company” at American Legion Post 54 on south Maple Avenue, starting at about noon.
