SPENCER – A Marathon County Public Library presentation will focus on polio and the grip it had on central Wisconsin.

Rick Lohr, a retired history teacher and traveler, will trace the history of polio in Marathon County and tell the personal story of his sister’s illness. Lohr will also speak about vaccines against the disease and about an immunization trip he took to India in 2004.

“Polio: Scourge of the 1950s and Beyond” is part of the History Speaks series offered through the Marathon County Historical Society. The program will take place June 4, 9-10 a.m. at the Spencer library, 105 S. Park St., Spencer.
