Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

I chose Marshfield because the tuition cost was affordable. Plus, I was not too far away from family. My cousin, who studied here previously, left me with many connections and resources.

What surprised you the most about UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield when you arrived on campus?

I was most surprised by the way my professors acted on the first day of class. They joked around and had easy-going conversations with the students, making the transition from high school to collegeeasier.

Why did you choose your program/major?

I chose psychology because I enjoy helping others. I feel the need to give back to the world, to try and make it a better place for those who I can help. I want people to understand that things can be worked through, that if others give up on them, I will be there helping them.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I have learned so much in my career field, and the most rewarding thing I have learned is how to be accepting of another’s behavior. Each person has different reactions and feelings towards what is happening. Some may laugh, others may cry depending on the situation, and we have to be okay with that even if that isn’t how we may react.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

My free time consists of reading, journaling and exercising.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

My favorite professor is Sandra Neumann, my psychology professor. She has a passionate trait that is brought out when she teaches, making the subject more fun. She also has a warm personality, being there for her students if we are struggling with assignments or personally.

What do you plan to do after UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

After I obtain my associate degree, I plan on continuing my education at our main campus in Stevens Point or at UW-Madison. In the long run, I hope to acquire a doctorate degree in psychology.

What is one piece of advice you have for incoming UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield students?

Get involved in the Marshfield community. I wasn’t really part of my community back home but, once I moved to Marshfield, I joined many volunteer projects and enjoyed the feeling of giving back to the community that has given me so much.
