Letter to the Editor: Catholic church has lost its integrity
Dear editor,
On Feb 21-24, the Pope held a summit to address the Catholic sex abuse scandal. The outcome of it amounted to basically nothing. They swept the scandal under the rug and simply kicked the can down the road.
They failed to come up with any measures to hold accountable those who have kept the the abuse secret. They also took no action against those who fail to protect children. They continue to look at abuse as an issue of sin and forgiveness and not an issue of crime and punishment.
The people in the pew talk openly about the scandal. The clergy choose to remain silent. The problem will not go away by itself. They have proved that they cannot police themselves. There is no end in sight to the scandal.
The church strongly preaches loudly about the rights of an unborn child. But a child born who has their life stolen by Catholic sexual abuse has no hope. Sexual abuse is soul murder. The victims have the right to a happy fulfilled life. But they are ignored like they are a disposable nothing. Victims deserve to be treated better and in a more just way.
Visit “Voice of the Faithful” website. They are working to turn things in the right direction. They want to help make the church a reputable place again.
