WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield man accused of dumping a litter of newborn puppies into a trash can in February has entered an innocent plea to charges of mistreating and intentionally abandoning animals.
Robert Wild, 56, entered the pleas April 22 in Wood County Circuit court.
The charges stem from a February incident when a salesman was going door-to-door and heard what he thought was a litter of kittens coming from a trash can. An investigation revealed the animals were newborn puppies, which have been under the care of the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter since their discovery.
Wild’s bond was set at $2,000. A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for June 21.
The puppies are nearly two months old and will go to their adopted homes soon.
