WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State student Jessye “Ann” Ilagan, Plover, has been elected by Wisconsin Student Government (WSG) to serve as the organization’s president for the 2019–2020 academic year. Ilagan, a Marketing and Business Management student at Mid-State, was elected at the April 12 WSG governors meeting held on the College’s Stevens Point Campus.

As president, Ann will provide a collective voice for all Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) students at the organization’s board meetings as well as work to understand WTCS issues and brief the WSG Board of Governors during the five annual meetings she’ll preside over across the state next academic year. She will also represent WSG as official spokesperson at outside functions, appoint all committees and committee chairs and approve subcommittee appointments of committee chairpersons.

“I am humbled and honored to be selected as the student representative of all 16 technical colleges in Wisconsin,” said Ilagan. “I’m amazed at the opportunities available to students at Mid-State to grow in not just knowledge but professional experiences—like Wisconsin Student Government,” she added. “I’m looking forward to doing whatever I can to help get the word out about how great the Wisconsin Technical College System is and be the voice that relays the ideas and concerns of students throughout Wisconsin.”

WSG is comprised of representatives for the 16 technical college districts in the WTCS. Each participating college selects a governor from among its students, and this group of governors votes at the last meeting of the academic year to elect its president for the upcoming year, choosing from the candidates who have decided to run for the position.

Ilagan will complete her marketing degree this May and continue on to complete her business management degree by next fall. She is a professional photographer and owner of Ann Ilagan Photography and looks forward to using the skills gained at Mid-State to further develop her business.
