Tigers launch baseball, softball seasons

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tigers baseball and softball teams kicked off their seasons in style – playing in sunny Florida over Spring Break. The Tiger baseball team went 0-4 in action March 25-28 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Disney World in Orlando, FL.
The Tigers wrapped up their week on March 28 with a 10-7 loss to Glenbrook-North of Illinois. Ben Gust had a single and two runs batted in for Marshfield. On March 26, Marshfield got beat by two schools from Illinois. The Tigers lost to Johnsburg 9-7. Gust had two hits and Ryan Krueger had two hits, two runs batted in and scored two runs. In the second game of the day, Marshfield got beat by Highland Park of Illinois 10-1. Isaiah Baierl doubled and drove in a run. The Tigers started the week’s action with a 4-2 loss on Monday, March 25 to Dublin Jerome of Ohio. Mason Coffren singled and tripled for Marshfield. He also took the loss on the mound.
The Tiger softball team had a successful week, going 2-1 in three games at the Disney Complex. Marshfield opened with an 8-5 win against Dublin Jerome of Ohio on March 25. Maddie Mews and Madelyn Bornbach doubled for the Tigers. The following day, the Tigers suffered an 11-2 loss to Grayslake North of Illinois. Bornbach doubled and drove in two runs and Jenna Jakobi singled and tripled.
The Tigers wrapped up the week with a 9-2 win over Deerfield of Illinois on March 28. Courtney Donahue was the winning pitcher, striking out five while giving up four hits over four innings of work to close out the game. The Tiger offense exploded. Lauryn Jakobi singled, doubled, and drove in four runs; Jenna Jakobi singled twice, doubled, and drove in a run; Jordan Pretsch had a single, a double, and an RBI; and Madeline Mews and Rhiannon Corozolla each had two singles and an RBI. Bohman singled and doubled as well.
