Hometown: Marshfield

High school attended: Marshfield High School

Current program or major: Business Administration

Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

I chose the University UW- Stevens Point at Marshfield because I wanted to work and go to school full time. I also wanted to keep the cost of my education lower. My goal has been to graduate debt free and, up to this point, I am still debt free.

Why did you choose your program/major?

In high school I participated in Pathway Partners and was fortunate enough to shadow the marketing director at A&B ProcessSystems. Shadowing her and learning more about business gave me a good idea of what I wanted to do as a career before I started college. Having that background and the opportunity to take a variety introductory courses in different fields of study at the Marshfield campus helped me to choose my major. If I had attended a larger four-year campus right out of high school, it would have made my decision harder.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I am fortunate enough to work at Roehl Transport while I attend college. I find it interesting how many topics carry over to the workplace. I have often asked: When am I ever going to use this? Well, truth be told, in most cases, you do use what you are taught.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

Aside from school I enjoy my job at Roehl. They have a great working environment and give back to the community. I also enjoy hiking, hunting, horse-back riding and cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

Diane Wolf, my business professor, is unlike any other. She really strives for student success and is willing to help the students achieve their academic goals. She’s a great ally and really got me to focus and narrow down what I wanted to do after school.

What do you plan to do after UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

After I complete my associate degree, I plan to finish my bachelor’s degree in business administration with a pre-law minor at UW-Stevens Point.

What is one piece of advice you have for incoming UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield students?

The best advice I can offer incoming students is don’t be afraid of the staff. They are there to make you successful and achieve academic excellence. Take advantage of this amazing resource.
