Letter to the Editor: McMillan candidate provides plans

Dear editor,

I grew up in the city, near a major highway and in the flight path of an international airport. There were amenities, sure, but the crowded location, traffic, pollution, and cost of living eventually led my family and I to leave for a more livable location. That location turned out to be McMillan. We purchased our home in 2015 and are here to stay. I think it’s obvious why.  McMillan provides a country lifestyle and access to nature while also maintaining a high standard of living and great town services.  I want to help support these and other aspects for those who live here and is why I am seeking your vote for Town Supervisor on the McMillan Town Board.

A key part of living in McMillan is the access to services we enjoy. It may not be something that many people think of, until needed. I’m talking about things like keeping our roads open in the winter, an efficient trash/recycles collection program, great education system, and reliance on top-notch fire-fighting and health services for our well-being. We need to be sure that such services are maintained in a manner where they are ready and able to do the job, we need them to do. Doing so with limited funding, however, can be challenging. My approach is to make the best use of the dollars the town has available. We need to use the allocated funding in the most meaningful and mindful manner to both support these and other town services and maintain our quality of life.

What is my fiscal approach for McMillan? Frankly, it is to use the funding that we are allocated in a fair manner to ensure that the business of running a town can proceed. This is not always as straightforward as it may sound. There are more expenses for McMillan than there are funds in any given year to put towards those expenses. We need to plan for what is needed now and in the future.

Thank you, and regardless of who you do vote for, be sure to vote on April 2!
