MARSHFIELD –After years of planning and months of construction, phase two of the YMCA expansion and renovation project is complete. The YMCA Board of Directors and staff announced March 1 that the new Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) YMCA at 410 W. McMillan St., Marshfield, will open the week of March 4-8.

The newly constructed state-of-the-art facility includes a Healthy Living Center with 24/7 access, a Strength Training Center, Multi-Generational Community Room, Welcome Center, and a Member Lounge. Many areas of the existing Y were renovated as part of the project, including: group exercise rooms, the Child Watch area, and Youth & Family Lounge.

Contractors are still working on the Roehl Fieldhouse, installing a very complex wood gym floor and walking/running track. Roehl Fieldhouse is expected to open in late April.

John Nystrom, MCHS YMCA CEO, says he is excited to further the Y’s mission to the community. “The Y is more than a place to work out – we’re a place of community. Of course, members will have access to new fitness equipment and social areas, but there will be so much more; we’ll be providing a positive, healthy, and safe environment for children, improving our own lifestyles, and engaging our elderly population,” he said.

MCHS and the YMCA announced in October 2016 that they had formed a partnership in support of a major capital campaign to expand and improve the existing YMCA. After raising nearly $9 million through the campaign, funds were raised through a public campaign to secure the revenue needed for the project.
