Marshfield hosts doubleheader with Rapids

MARSHFIELD – After a couple of rescheduled games due to weather, the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders finally made it to Marshfield for a conference doubleheader. The night started with the ladies taking the court. The Marshfield girls went into the locker room at half time with a 25-17 lead. Marshfield would continue to dominate in the second half and won with a score of 61-41. Marshfield sophomore, Maddie Michaelis, had a great night, leading the scoring with 17. Wisconsin Rapids sophomore Vanessa Vechinski led her team with points, scoring 13.

Prior to the night’s match up, Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapid’s girls teams were tied in the conference for third. Marshfield is now has the third spot, behind SPASH and Wausau West.

After a Feb. 5 game against Chippewa Falls, Marshfield takes on Wausau West Feb. 8. Wisconsin Rapids plays next Feb. 8 at D.C. Everest.

Next, the boys hit the court. The first half was a close battle between the two teams, until Marshfield starting pulling away before halftime. The score at the half was 28-18, Marshfield. The Marshfield boys also led the second half, outscoring their opponents 31-22. The final score of the game was 59-40.

High scorers for the night were Marshfield’s Isaac Meverden, with 15, and Preston Wagner, with 13. Rapids’ Dylan Lisitka had 15, while Nathan Krommenakker had 12.

With the win, Marshfield is now tied with Merrill at the top of the conference leader board. Marshfield Tiger boys play next Feb. 5 at home against Mosinee. Wisconsin Rapids will face D.C. Everest at home on Feb. 8.
