Marshfield takes second, has four champions in WVC tournament

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tigers wrestling team narrowly missed out as conference champs during the 2019 Wisconsin Valley Conference Wrestling Tournament held at Wausau West on Feb. 2.

Marshfield lost by just 5.5 points to new WVC champions Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, who scored 198.5 compared to Marshfield’s 193. DC Everest took third with 191.

Marshfield performed well in individual placement, with four wrestlers taking the championship in their weight class. Keagan Cliver (9-1) placed second in the 113-pound bracket, losing to Karter Stuttgen (Stevens Point) who by decision in the championship round. Riley Wilcott (2-2) placed fifth in the 120-pound bracket, while Cody Weix (2-2) placed fourth in the 126-pound bracket. Ryan Dolezal (7-1) placed second in the 132-pound bracket, losing to Freddy Lehrke (D.C. Everest) who won by decision in the championship round. Tanner Kanable (9-1) placed second in the 138-pound bracket, when Zac Hamel (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) won by decision in the championship round. Caden Dennee (3-3) placed fifth in the 145-pound bracket. Caden Pearce (9-1) took the championship in 152 pounds, winning by decision over Gabe Carter (D.C. Everest). Nolan Hertel (10-0) also took his championship in the 160-pound bracket. Hertel won by decision over Carson Trotzer (D.C. Everest). Brenden Braund (3-1) placed second in 170 pounds, losing to Isaac Diaz (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) by fall. Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann (10-0) placed first in 182 pounds, winning by fall to over Bradley Leiskau (Merrill). Sam Mitchell (10-0) took his championship in the 195-pound bracket, winning by decision over Orion Boe (D.C. Everest). Cameron Hergert (1-5) placed seventh in the 220-bracket. Samual Haessly (6-1) placed second in 285 pounds, losing in the championship round to by fall to Zach Iribarren (Merrill).
