Auburndale girls turn narrow lead into win

AUBURNDALE — The Jan. 25 game between Marawood conference girls basketball rivals, Marathon and Auburndale, at Auburndale High School was a close battle.
Auburndale went into the locker room at halftime, with a narrow lead on the Red Raiders – 20-19. The Apache girls maintained that lead into the second half, closing the game with a 47-40 win.
Hailey Grimm of Auburndale was high scorer for the night with 12 – eight of those points coming from free throws. Natalie Aue and Marissa Ponshock each added 10.
Auburndale plays next Feb. 1 at home in a boys-girls double header against Rib Lake. The girls’ game starts at 5:45 p.m., with the boys’ game following.
