NEILLSVILLE – One person is dead following a crash on State Hwy 10 near Resewood Avenue in the town of Hewett.

The accident occurred Jan. 22, shortly before 2 p.m., when a semi truck driven by Daniel Esong, 38, was eastbound on Hwy 10 and lost control, entering the south ditch.

The trailer jack-knifed and blocked both lanes of the highway. A pick-up truck, driven by Bryan Acker, 58, was traveling west hauling a vehicle on a trailer when it struck the rear driver’s side of the semi trailer and came to rest in the north ditch.

Acker was transported by the Neillsville Area Ambulance Service to the Marshfield Medical Center – Neillsville. He was pronounced dead at the hospital by Coroner Richard Schleifer.

Esong, who was wearing a seatbelt, and a passenger were not injured. It is unknown if Acker was wearing a seatbelt.

Acker is from Neillsville and Esong is from Texas.

The Neillsville Area Fire and Ambulance Service responded to the scene, along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Marshfield Fire Ambulance, and Coroner Schleifer. The investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff and Coroner’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

This is the second traffic fatality in Clark County for 2019.
