MARSHFIELD – Longtime Marshfield mail-order gift company Figi’s, Inc. is closing, leaving nearly 300 people without jobs.

Figi’s corporate owner Mason Companies announced Jan. 4 operations will stop by the end of March, with 129 employees were let go Jan. 4 and another 147 workers in March. About 125 employees will be retained in the Figi’s call center and a Stevens Point warehouse location. Mason says it’s shutting down its Gifts in Good Taste and Birchland Market gift catalogs.

Figi’s, Inc. was founded in 1944, and Mason Companies bought the company in 2013, when it was suffering financially.

Mason is providing the affected workers with assistance. All impacted employees will be given 60 days of full salary and benefits. They will also receive 60 days of access to the company’s employee assistance program to help find new jobs.

Mason has no plans to sell the Figi’s building at this time.
