MCMILLAN – A special meeting of electors will be held in the town of McMillan Dec. 7 to reconsider the 2018 town tax levy for the 2019 budget year.

The meeting was scheduled following a Nov. 13 budget hearing on a proposed levy of $665,815. The levy is a nearly 6 percent increase over the previous year’s levy of $628,584. The largest increase in the proposed budget – at 27.71 percent – is earmarked for public works, mainly for equipment and road work. The increase levy equals to $36 on a $200,000 residence.

During the Nov. 13 budget hearing, action was taken to reduce the levy from $665,815 to $500,000. The action passed through a 51-39 vote. With this action the town will need to adjust nearly $166,000 in spending.

Town officials are now requesting reconsideration on the approval of the $500,000 levy and are asking that tax payers attend a special meeting on Dec. 7. The meeting will take place at the McMillan Fire Department, M400 Elm St., Marshfield, at 6 p.m.
