MARSHFIELD – A Clark County woman accused of stealing from her employer has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Donna LaValley, 61, of Neillsville is charged with six counts of theft in a business setting.
An investigation began Jan. 2015, after the owner of Russell’s of Neillsville suspected LaValley was diverting bank funds.
According to court documents, a detective stated LaValley embezzled over $170,000 over five years. When confronted, LaValley reportedly blamed the discrepancies on a cash register malfunction.
Investigators believe LaValley was able to take the money between 2010 and 2015 by returning items that had not been purchased. According to court documents, an extension cord valued at $75 had been returned 53 times.
According to the criminal complaint, an employee told investigators LaValley told her she took the money to pay for medical bills.
