MARSHFIELD – In the Nov. 6 election, two candidates will face John Spiros for the 86th Assembly seat. Democratic challenger Nancy Stencil, along with Independent Michael Tauschek, will challenge the longtime incumbent for the spot he has held for five years.

Local media sat down with the candidates in a MCTV interview to learn more about the candidates.

In the following excerpts the candidates tell a little about themselves.

“I am a farmer from Auburndale. I crop a couple of hundred acres out in Auburndale, in the town of Marshfield and town of Auburndale.

I worked 35 years in the paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids, and 33 of them were as a maintenance electrician. During that time, I was also my union president for three years, and I negotiated three different contracts with three different employers. Basically, that taught me that the only way you are going to accomplish anything is sit down with the other side, talk about what each side wants and how we want to accomplish it. Each side has to give in order to come to a compromise.”

“I hail from Rib Mountain, Wisconsin, which is a suburb of Wausau. I work in the field of community mental health. I am a crisis professional.

As people, we are so busy. We are working –  a lot of people with two jobs. They have children to raise, and I don’t think they always have the time to invest in looking at what their community leaders do, and I think it is important that they are represented over big corporations. I said that I would do what is best for the community. I’d like to hear from them; what they expect to see from their representative.”

“Currently, I am in the state assembly. I was elected in 2013. I am the chairman of Criminal Justice and the chairman of Transportation. Prior to that, I was on the Marshfield city council for eight years.

I work for a trucking company here in Marshfield. I’ve been with that company for 16 years. I’ve been in the trucking industry for 30 years. Prior to that, I was a police officer and prior to that, I was in the Air Force.
