Letter to the Editor: Nothing has changed in politics

Dear editor,
Political elections are coming up again and nothing much has changed. It’s the same old vulgar mudslinging by the candidates running for office. Instead of them telling the positive things they are going to do if they are elected, they spend most of their efforts negatively degrading and belittling their opponents. What type of message are they sending to our young people?
I’ve taught in three different school systems in my lifetime and every school had a strong policy of “zero tolerance” to “bullying.” Then why is it acceptable for our future adult leaders to “bully” one another but wrong for the kids. When discussing this with other people, they simply say, well, “That’s the way politics have always been.”
In conclusion, until the general public demands a change of this poor behavior, it isn’t going to change. When going to the “polls” it’s getting to be that one does not vote for the best candidate, but rather the one of the lesser evil. If you are sick and tired of seeing all those negative accusations on television, then tape all your favorite programs and fast forward all that political garbage.
Respectfully,
Darrell Laschen
