Tigers chasing history

MARSFIELD – The Marshfield Tigers have done something that they have not done in nearly two decades. The Tigers, on Oct. 12, wrapped up an undefeated regular season, by beating Wausau West 36-6.
The last time Marshfield finished the regular season unbeaten was 1999, when the Tigers finished 13-1 under former Head Coach Len Luedtke. Current Head Coach Denny Goettl has now tallied his first undefeated season at the helm, and he’s got the Tigers going into the Division 2 playoffs as a No. 1 seed, hosting Ashwaubenon Oct. 19 in a Level 1 playoff game at Beell Stadium in Marshfield at 7 p.m.
The Tigers put up 22 points on Wausau West in the first quarter of last Friday night’s game. Quarterback Ryan Krueger scored on an 11-yard run, then threw a 12-yard TD pass to Caden Pearce, before Brant Bohman wrapped up the first quarter scoring with a nine-yard scoring rush. Bohman scored Marshfield’s only touchdown of the second quarter when he hauled in a 15-yard pass from Krueger. The Tigers got their final score of the night when Isaac Meverden returned a punt 56 yards for a touchdown.
Krueger threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Bohman led the rushing attack with 13 carries for 65 yards. Pearce added nine rushes for 43 yards. Goettl is now 56-35 as the head coach of the Tigers.
