MARSHFIELD – The Stratford Tigers remained unbeaten Oct. 5 in Marawood Conference football action, by defeating Marathon 41-8. The Tigers scored on six of their first seven possessions, while the Red Raiders went three-and-out the first four times they had the ball.

Stratford opened up the game by covering 55 yards on two plays, scoring on a 23-yard run by Derek Marten. On Stratford’s next possession, Max Schwabe hit tight end Okley Wrensch for a 40-yard scoring strike to end a four-play drive. The Tigers then used three plays to cover 41 yards, scoring on a 14-yard run by Kade Ehrike. Four possessions later, the Tigers used seven plays to chew up 62 yards, scoring on a 12-yard carry by Marten.

After the Stratford score, Marathon embarked on an eight-play drive that stalled out at the Tigers’ 16. Stratford then went 84 yards in 10 plays, scoring on a two-yard rush by Ehrike. After another Marathon three-and-out, Stratford used four plays to go 68 yards, scoring again on a pass from Schwabe to Wrensch. That ended Stratford’s scoring for the game. The Tigers had racked up all 41 of their points before halftime.

Marathon’s only score came at the end of an eight-play 85-yard drive near the end of the game.

Ehrike led the Tigers with 12 carries for 145 and two touchdowns. Schwabe was 7-of-8 passing for 111 yards and two scores.

Stratford improved to 7-1, and 5-0 in Marawood Conference competition. The Tigers will face unbeaten Edgar on Oct. 12 in Stratford.
