Hilarion J. “Mick”, “Hurricane” Michlig

Hilarion J. “Mick”, “Hurricane” Michlig, age 86, of rural Dorchester, passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, September 25 2018 at Aspirus Medford Hospital.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford.  Rev. Marcia Thomas will officiate.  Family and friends are welcome from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.  Military Honors provided by the Dorchester American Legion Post #517.

Mick was born on May 12, 1932, the son of John and Catherine (Handrick) Michlig in the Town of Castle, Marathon County.  He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951-55, stationed in Germany and France.  On April 18, 2016, Mick was honored to be part of the Honor Flight.  On November 14, 1956, Mick was united in marriage to Betty Morgan.  They later divorced.  On November 14, 1987, Mick was united in marriage to Ramona (Langhoff) Kittel in Abbotsford.

Mick worked in Milwaukee, All Metal Stamping in Abbotsford, Spencer lumber yard, Bowen Hardware in Curtiss and owned Michlig’s Pit Stop in Curtiss.  He was a mechanic and worked on small engines.  His passion was racing stock cars and snowmobiles.  Mick enjoyed NASCAR, the Packers, fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards and boating.  His favorite saying was “what a guy could do” before he started any project.

Mick is survived by his wife, Ramona of Dorchester; two children: Theresa (Jeff) Thorson and Mark Michlig, both of Curtiss; four step-children:  Laurie (Kevin) Michlig of Colby, Jeff Kittel of Loyal, Joanne (Scott) Zettler of Abbotsford and Julie (Thomas) Neubauer of Loyal; four grandchildren: Josh (Sarah) Michlig of Kewaskum, Natalie (Paul) Hazuga of Stanley, Matthew (Amy) Thorson of Milan and Catherine Michlig of Bruce; several step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren: Eli, Easton, Elexis Hazuga, Isaac and Erin Michlig, Olivia and Charlotte Thorson; and many step-great-grandchildren.  He is further survived by his brother, David (Beverly) Michlig of Colby; a sister-in-law, Doreen Michlig of Colby; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his ex-wife, Betty; two brothers, Jerome and Lavern Michlig; two sisters, Lorraine Ewert and MaryAnn Frane and a step-granddaughter, Christina Michlig.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are requested to the Honor Flight.
