MARSHFIELD – Central Wisconsin residents can enjoy free music and food Sept. 29, at Wenzel Family Plaza in Marshfield while learning how they can be part of the national All of Us Research Program at Marshfield Clinic Research Institute.
The event, held 2:30-5 p.m., will feature live music by the Pointless Brothers, and free food and ice cream. Attendees have the opportunity to win prizes while playing interactive games centered on the concept of precision medicine.
All of Us staff will be on hand throughout the event to answer questions about the research program and explain why precision medicine is important to central Wisconsin.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently launched the All of Us Research Program, which is a research effort to gather data from one million or more people living in the U.S., to accelerate research and improve health. By taking into account individual differences in lifestyle, environment, and biology, researchers will uncover paths toward delivering precision medicine. The Research Institute has been chosen as an enrollment partner in this program.
“Our community kickoff event provides an opportunity for you to learn more about how you can help improve health for generations. If you join the All of Us Research Program, we will be able to collect health data on people just like you to advance how we deliver medical care,” said Murray Brilliant, Ph.D., director of the Center for Human Genetics at the Research Institute. “Additionally, participants will be able to view their own health information and compare it to summary data about other participants around the country, and will have access to information about studies and findings that come from All of Us.”
In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Chestnut Center for the Arts in Marshfield.
