MARSHFIELD — Two area football teams remain undefeated after three weeks of high school football.

Rockets roll past Crickets

Week three of the high school football season kicked off on Aug. 30 with Spencer/Columbus picking up right where they left off the previous week. The Dons defeated Fall Creek 49-16 in Cloverbelt Conference action.

Spencer/Columbus scored four times in the first quarter and two more times in the second, to grab a 42-0 halftime lead. The Rockets scored once more in the third to grab a 49-0 lead, before the Crickets scored 16 fourth-quarter points. S/C got back-to-back one-yard touchdown runs from Carson Hildebrandt in the first quarter, followed by two touchdown passes from quarterback Jarred Mandel to Austin Bacon and Jacob Dick. In the second quarter, Mandel hit Ethan Meece on a 34-yard touchdown pass, and Hildebrandt scored on another one-yard run. Hayden Bauman added S/C’s final score in the third quarter, on a 25-yard run.

Fall Creek scored on a safety when the Crickets tackled Max McGiveron in the end zone. The Crickets also added a pair of rushing touchdowns. But, the night belonged to the Rockets, who improved to 3-0 on the season. S/C was led by Hayden Bauman, who carried the ball 11 times for 148 yards and a score. Hildebrandt had eight rushes for 40 yards and three touchdowns. Bacon had seven carries for 57 yards, and Eden Jacobson rushed four times for 30 yards. Mandel was 7-for-12 for 157 yards and three touchdown passes. Bauman also led the Rockets with six tackles on defense. Mandel was 7-for-7 on extra point attempts.

Spencer/Columbus will host Stanley-Boyd Sept. 7 at Ted Fritsch Field in Spencer.

Tigers trounce Polar Bears

The Marshfield Tigers had their rushing attack on full display Aug. 31 in Hortonville, as the Tigers grabbed their third straight win, in a 41-20 victory over the Bears.

The Tigers racked up 401 yards of rushing, in a game they trailed in the second quarter. Marshfield started piling up the yards early, as quarterback Ryan Krueger rushed for a 73-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Tigers the lead. But, the Bears put up two straight scores of their own, to grab a 13-7 lead.

Marshfield then got Brant Bohman and Caden Pearce going. Each had eight-yard touchdown runs in the second quarter, to give the Tigers a 21-13 halftime lead. But Bohman was just getting started. Brant rushed for three more touchdowns in the second half, as the Tigers steamrolled their opponents for the win, to start the season 3-0. Bohman ran the ball 16 times for 162 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 10 yards a carry and a touchdown every four rushes. Krueger added nine carries for 140 yards, and Pearce had 11 rushes for 54 yards. Isaiah Baierl carried the ball seven times for 31 yards. Marshfield ran 48 rush plays, averaging 8.5 yards per carry.

Marshfield is now 2-0 in the Valley Football Association’s West Division. The Tigers play at Kaukauna Sept. 7.
