The lazy days of summer

MARSHFIELD – As the August weather heats up, Wildwood Park & Zoo’s resident Kodiaks enjoy respite in the exhibit’s pools.
Boda is now approximately 860 pounds, while Munsey is about 810 pounds.
Sue Wendlandt, who documents the bears’ activities, says the bears may spend long periods of time in the exhibit waters to keep cool but each has their favorite activities.
“Munsey is the only bear that plays with the stones and landscaping cloth,” she said. “Boda prefers large sticks.
“They’ll both use large sticks to scratch their backs and the backs of their head.”
The zoo is open 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. during summer hours – Memorial Day to Labor Day. Kodiak viewing opportunities are dependent upon feeding times.
