MTA hosts doubles tournament

MARSFIELD – Twenty-one teams and 34 players competed Aug. 3-5 in the Marshfield Tennis Association (MTA) Doubles Tournament at the J.D. Boson Tennis Courts in Marshfield.

Bill Eggebrecht and Ken Swenson of Marshfield defeated Jill Joyce and Betsy Wolf of Marshfield 6-4, 7-6 in the combined division of Men’s B and Women’s A consolation. MTA photo

In the Men’s A Division, Sean Soupiset and Alex Christianson of Stevens Point were undefeated in winning the round robin competition, beating the teams of Tom Duncan and Garry Koehler of Marshfield, 6-1, 6-3; Chris Grtizmacher of Wausau and Sam Gritzmacher of Minneapolis MN, 7-6, 6-0; and Todd Schultz and Jacob Twardowski of Marshfield 6-2, 6-1.

In the Combined Division of Men’s B and Women’s A:  Brett and Duane Haakenson of Antigo defeated Renee Wesolowski of Marshfield and Holly Reckner of Stratford, 6-4, 6-1.

In the Mixed Doubles Division, Holly Reckner and Todd Schultz defeated Jill Joyce and Brett Haakenson 7-6, 6-0.

In the Juniors Division, Scott and Dillon Scheuer were undefeated in winning the round robin competition, beating the teams of Len and Audrey Luedtke of Marshfield, Ajiht and Aleena Varghese, and Emma Tucker and Loryn Jacobi.

In Men’s A competition, Chris and Sam Gritzmacher took second place. In the consolation round for the Combined Division of Men’s B and Womens’ A, Bill Eggebrecht and Ken Swenson of Marshfield defeated Jill Joyce and Betsy Wolf of Marshfield 6-4, 7-6.

In the Mixed Doubles consolation contest, Tom Duncan and Tonya Barth defeated Renee and Pat Wesolowski 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
