Letter to the Editor: Reader supports Herrick
Dear editor,
I am writing this letter in support of Greg Herrick for re-election for Clark County sheriff. I have known Greg for many years and know that he is an honest, educated, organized, empathetic, fair, and caring person. He has shown his dedication, experience, and work ethic to Clark County residents for the past eight years.
When Greg first ran for Sheriff in 2010, it was the request of the voters for him to “clean things up.” This remains true for his re-election in 2014, and continues in the 2018 re-election One must realize that the “clean up” process is not going to happen “overnight” because it was years in the making.
It is known that Greg has “cleaned up” the Sheriff’s Department. I am aware of at least a handful (media coverage) that are gone from the department due to their lies, deception, theft, failure to follow policy procedure, falsifying reports, deleting reports, unlawful traffic stops, not following through with investigations, and the list goes on.
So, voters expect the Sheriff’s Department to be “cleaned up” and when some of these employees are gone some voters are angry stating that nothing is being done? Also, the law enforcement officers that are gone from the department due to their own accord blaming the sheriff for their own behaviors.
Please listen closely to the ones who are speaking the loudest about how “crooked, corrupt and unfair” Greg is, it may just be that it is them that have been “cleaned out.” As human nature some people are unhappy with assignments they are given, this is no reason to blame your boss for your misdeeds. Furthermore, as a law enforcement officer, they are part of the Union, which allows them access to “top notch” attorneys. If the attorneys find that the officer “has a chance” to retain their job it will proceed in arbitration; if not, they enter into a “resignation agreement.”
Please vote Aug. 14 and re-elect Greg Herrick for our Clark County sheriff so that he can continue his thirty-nine years in law enforcement with the last eight as sheriff.
