MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Senior American Legion Blue Devils lost their regular-season finale to Plover July 16. The Black Sox won the game 9-7, thanks in large part to a five-run fifth inning.
Marshfield had a 4-3 lead after four innings, but Plover tagged Marshfield starting pitcher Connor Jasurda with five runs on three hits in the fifth inning to grab an 8-4 lead. Plover added another run in the sixth inning to lead 9-4. Marshfield got a rally going in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs to pull to within two. And the Blue Devils had two on in the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn’t score, and Plover held on for the win.
Riley Boushack led Marshfield, going 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and two runs batted in. Jake Brueggen doubled and tripled and scored twice.
Marshfield ends its regular season 20-12, and opens play at the AAA Regional tournament against Wausau. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids. The broadcast of that game starts at 3:45 p.m. on AM 1450 WDLB, and on wdlbam.com.
After going 12-4 in June, the Blue Devils are 8-9 in the month of July, and 20-13 overall.
