MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield American Junior Legion baseball team has captured its AAA Regional title, and will play in the state Junior Legion tournament this weekend in Plover. The Blue Demons defeated Stevens Point 3-2 in a nine-inning thriller July 16 at Athletic Park in Wausau. Marshfield took an early 2-0 lead with runs in each of the first two innings. Point came back to tie the game with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The game stayed tied until Marshfield won it in the bottom of the ninth inning. Marshfield’s Isaac Meverden struck out six over seven innings of work. Ty Pankratz had two hits and an RBI for the Blue Demons.

Marshfield made it to the championship game last weekend. After losing to Plover 2-1 on July 13, Marshfield defeated Clintonville July 14 by a 7-1 final.

Logan Schreiner was the winning pitcher. Kyle Bainer went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Devyn Palmer drove in two runs. On July 15, the Demons outlasted Wausau 7-5. Trailing 5-2, Marshfield rallied for five runs over the last three innings to get the win. Post 54 then beat Stevens Point 3-2 to advance to the July 16 championship game.

The Demons will face Manitowoc at 10 a.m. July 20 in Plover.
