MARSHFIELD – Julie Cravillion, of Shirley’s House of Hope, was recently selected as a Daily Point of Light honoree.

The Daily Point of Light is an international program founded by Former President George H.W. Bush. The award celebrates the power of an individual to “spark change and improve the world” and has been given to just over 6,000 people, honoring those who take action to create change in their communities.

Julie’s work with Shirley’s House of Hope began in 2007, when she heard 300 families were seeking assistance regarding domestic violence. She contacted 11 churches in an effort to put together personal care bags for the families.

She then placed an ad, seeking individuals who might help start a domestic abuse shelter. With assistance from Sue Poole, a steering committee was formed.

In 2010, the dream became reality. Julie now serves as executive director of the facilities, receiving no financial compensation.

Julie was nominated by Sue Poole, program director of Shirley’s House of Hope.
