Letter to the Editor: Separation at the border
Dear editor,
Between May 5 and June 19, 2,342 children were separated from their parents at our country’s southern border. Most of the anguished parents do not have any idea where their children are, weeks later. The images of sobbing children stored in cages in detention facilities, across our country rips at the hearts of Republicans and Democrats alike. Morality knows no political persuasion.
As a member of First Presbyterian Church’s “Immigration Action Team” and as an American citizen, I am outraged by what I am watching unfold. This inhumane action does not reconcile with my Christian training nor my values as an American. Although the separations have ceased, there is no system in place to reunite children with their parents. This is a test of America’s humanity. Will we pass the test?
