MTA hosts tennis tournament

MARSHFIELD — The 2018 Marshfield Open Tennis Tournament was held June 23 by the Marshfield Tennis Association (MTA). There were 22 participants, and all matches were played in a two-set format with a 10-point third set tie breaker.
There were five players in the Men’s A singles competition, which was won by Evan Fait of Marshfield. He defeated Ron Olson of Balsam Lake 6-0, 6-4. The Consolation Champion was Jacob Twardowski of Marshfield, who defeated Ron Twardowski of Marshfield 7-5, 6-3.
Six players competed for the co-ed singles title. The champion was Brett Haakenson of Antigo, who defeated Renee Wesolowski of Marshfield 6-1, 6-2. The consolation hampion was Thaddius Kubisiak of Wausau, who defeated Betsy Wolf of Marshfield 5-7, 6-4, 10-6.
In the 12-14 year-old round robin co-ed singles division, Dillon Scheuer of Marshfield defeated Alexandra Lee of Marshfield 6-1, 6-2. Scheuer then beat Amanda Lansing of Stevens Point 6-0, 6-1.
In the Co-Ed Adult Doubles Team bracket, Ryan Weichelt of Eau Claire and Ron Olson of Balsam Lake were the champions, defeating Evan Fait and Will Fay of Marshfield 6-0, 2-1 in a forfeit. The Consolation Champions were Duane Haakenson and Brett Haakenson of Antigo, who defeated Renee Wesolowski and Tanya Barth of Marshfield 6-2, 6-1.
MTA to host tournament in August
MTA will host a doubles tournament August 3-5 at the J.D. Boson Tennis Courts at Marshfield High School. There will be Adult Doubles, Junior Doubles, and Adult/Child Doubles competition.
