Lorraine M. Sternweis, Marshfield, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Daniel Sedlacek officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until service time on Tuesday at Our Lady of Peace Church. A combined Parish Council of Catholic Women and Lady Knights Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 pm on Monday at the funeral home.

Lorraine was born, one of seven children, on December 5, 1927 in Rozellville, to James and Alma (Lang) Griesbach.  She attended St. Andrew’s Parochial School, Rozellville and Stratford High School. She was united in marriage to George T. Sternweis on August 23, 1950 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville. He died on November 8, 2012.

Lorraine began playing piano accordion at a young age and as a teenager she enjoyed being part of the family band consisting of her father and brothers, Bob and Ed. They played for numerous wedding dances, anniversaries, and other events. Lorraine also worked at F.W. Woolworth Company as a store clerk until her marriage. While raising her own children, she also babysat in their home for many years, until around the time of George’s retirement. She enjoyed baking, gardening, playing old time music on the organ, and visits with her family.

She is survived by her children, Ken Sternweis of Miami Beach, FL, David (Debbie) Sternweis of Clovis, CA, Julie (Dave) Wilken of Uncasville, CT, Mark (Shelli) Sternweis of Marshfield and Lisa (Edgar) Torres of Port Edwards. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kristen (Ruchi) De Silva, Daniel, Casey and Andrew Sternweis, and Lorena and Marcelo Torres. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Lorraine Bentzler and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al (Arlene) Sternweis, all of Marshfield.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Karen, a sister, Gertrude DeGroote and brothers, Alfred, Robert, Norbert, Arnold and Edward Griesbach.

Memorials may be designated in Lorraine’s name to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
