MILWAUKEE — Marshfield’s Nasonville Elementary has receive top recognition for completing the statewide Healthy Schools Challenge focusing on a healthy mind.

Mission: Healthy Kids, a partnership of Kohl’s Cares® and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, offered a program to Wisconsin schools in March and April focused on healthy minds activities. The purpose of the Healthy Schools Challenge was to provide an engaging way for educators to introduce or continue to implement healthy minds topics in their classrooms. More than 20,000 students in 27 Wisconsin counties were registered to participate in the Challenge.

Educators chose from three outlined challenges – Daily Mindfulness, Mindful Journal, or Reducing Screen Time – or created their own.

Nasonville Elementary was one of the top 20 schools that qualified for classroom awards to further their mindfulness activities.

In addition, Nasonville was one of three schools in the top 20 to win a random drawing to receive a $500 Challenge Grant to continue their mindfulness work in the classroom.

Research shows that learning mindfulness can help kids: pay attention better, be less distracted, learn more, stay calm under stress, increase patience, feel happier, and become more empathetic.
