MARSHFIELD – There are multiple children who are looking for a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Big Couple. The role of a Big Brother or Big Sister is to be a consistent, responsible, and caring mentor and friend. Matches meet two to four times per month and do a variety of activities together, including: working on homework, going for a walk, going out for ice cream, or just talking about their day. The most important role a Big Brother or Big Sister plays is being a responsible and consistent friend and role model to a child.

Children in a mentoring relationship are 52 percent less likely to skip school, 46 percent less likely to begin using illegal drugs, and 33 percent less likely to hit someone when compared to their non-mentored peers.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is the nation’s premiere mentoring program. Our vision at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Wisconsin is that all children achieve success in life. We would like to encourage members of our community to consider mentoring one of the children on our waiting list. By coming together as a community, we can ensure that all children who need a mentor have one.

For more information, please contact Allie Dorshorst, program director, at 715-387-6198, visit www.bigimpact.org, or stop at BBBS of Central Wisconsin, 243 S. Central Ave #109, Marshfield.
