Marshfield Legion has new amenities, new name
By Kris Leonhardt
MARSHFIELD – Marshfield’s American Legion Post 54 celebrated its recent remodeling with a dedication and ribbon cutting for the new Merkel Brothers Vietnam Veterans Memorial Patio on May 23.
The new addition to the hall features two fire pits with swivel rocking chairs, a fireplace, pizza oven, benches, and bistro tables and chairs, flanked by two pergolas.
During the ceremony, visiting Department of Wisconsin Adjutant Amber Nikolai noted Marshfield’s Legion as visionary and a role model for the 500 plus Legion posts in the state.
The project was the vision of Paul Rogers, of Rogers Cinema. Rogers said that the hall will have a new name – Veterans Memorial Hall, Home of the American Legion – and will provide a home for other organizations and will be open to public and private events.
The American Legion’s presence in Marshfield dates back to 1919. The post is one of just a few centennial posts and was established following World War I.
