Dorothy A. Gessert
Dorothy A. Gessert, 86, of rural Marshfield entered the loving embrace of her Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday afternoon, April 25, 2018 at her home in the Township of McMillan.
Dorothy was born December 10, 1931 to Wenzel and Julia (Huetter) Egner in the city of Marshfield, WI in Wood County.
At Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Dorothy was clothed in the robes of Christ’s righteousness and later was confirmed in the Catholic faith – a faith that sustained her throughout her life. Dorothy attended Manville School.
Later, Dorothy met her one true love, Sylvester Gessert, at a local dance common in those days. She and Sylvester married on October 9, 1951. Within weeks, the Korean War soon parted them as Sylvester was deployed with the US Army to the Korean peninsula. While they were separated, they wrote daily to each other – a testament to the love they had for each other, a love that lasted 64 years. Together, Dorothy and Sylvester had three children Kathryn, Mark and Theresa.
Dorothy loved working and held numerous jobs throughout her life. She worked at Weinbrenner’s Shoe Company, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and lastly as a dry-waller at Wisconsin Homes. Of all that she did, her favorite task in life was raising her children. Dorothy was also known as a superb cook and baker.
Throughout her life, Dorothy loved reading, sewing, knitting, vacationing with her family, especially gardening – tending her many flower beds and preserving much of the produce from her garden and passed many of those skills on to her children and grandchildren.
After retiring from work, Dorothy continued these hobbies, but loved the ability to spend more time with her family and friends. Dorothy was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and an active member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW). She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Kathryn Gessert of Marshfield, Mark (Better Kramer) Gessert of Stratford, Theresa (Thomas) Hasz of Granton, grandchildren: Annette Woller, Nathan (Stephanie) Gessert, Nicholas Gessert, Matthew (Shelly Seagren) Hasz, Brandon (Danyelle) Hasz, Hannah Hasz, great-grandchildren: Austin, Taylor, Melanie, Corbyn, Mason, Braedyn, Abigail, Emma, Emmalin, great-grand daughter due in July, sisters and brother: Caroline (Lloyd) Skaya, Elinore (Art) Fredrickson, Paul (Grace) Egner.
Dorothy is preceded in death by husband, Sylvester, parents Wenzel & Julia, brothers, Wenzel “Sonny”, baby boy Egner, and sister Loretta Egner.
