Roderick (Rod) P. Smith, 79, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully into the hands of our Lord on February 22, 2018 at House of the Dove.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield, WI with visitation one hour prior to service time. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 at St. John’s Church following the service. Private burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Rembs Funeral Home of Marshfield will be handling all arrangements.

Rod was born on September 11, 1938 in the Town of Fremont, Clark County, the son of Ted and Emma (Elmhorst) Smith. He graduated from Granton High School.  He served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Albany off the coast of Vietnam.

He was employed for 43 years at the Weyerhauser Company until his retirement in 2000. In his younger years Rod enjoyed golf, musky fishing, trout fishing in Pennsylvania and deer hunting. More recently his hobbies included cribbage, gardening and attending grandchildren’s sporting events.

Rod was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also an unofficial armchair quarterback of the Packers and an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his loving wife Doris of 33 years, his children Jeffrey and Karen, Doris’ 6 children, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his brothers Jerome, Charles and Richard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn.

We would like to thank the staff and volunteers at House of the Dove for their extraordinary care and compassion.

Memorials may be designated in his name to House of the Dove.
