Mittens: No lounging around when it comes to charity

MARSHFIELD – Through two separate programs, Mitten’s Home Appliance has spent the month of February giving back to the Marshfield community.

As part of a charitable giving partnership between La-Z-Boy and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), Mitten’s Home Appliance delivered a new piece of furniture to Marshfield’s Ronald McDonald House Feb. 20.

Mitten’s has been involved in charitable giving since the Marshfield RMHC home first opened in the early 1980s, when the store donated all of the appliances.

La-Z-Boy is the official furniture provider of RMHC. Marshfield is just one of nearly 200 RMHC homes in North America providing lodging for families whose children are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

Mitten’s is also stocking up on furniture for local needs through a furniture trade-in program. In February, customers were offered an opportunity to sell their old furniture to Mitten’s as they purchased new products. The used furniture will then be made available for local needs.

“We’ve never had a trade in promotion, but when we have a month when a typical promotion doesn’t exist – like Black Friday, etc. – I will ask our sales staff to rack their brain on what they would like to see and one of them suggested a trade in promotion,” explained C.W. Mitten. “We have reached out to St. Vincent’s to be able to coordinate the usable furniture.”

Mitten said that the trade-in program has gone very well and that they have plans to organize another initiative in the future.

“I would ideally like it to blow up so we could reach out to even more charitable organizations in the area. We started small to hopefully build on for the future,” Mitten added.
