Walter E. Noll

Walter E. Noll, 92, Marshfield, passed away peacefully with his five children near his side at home on Friday, February 16, 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30 am until service time at St. John’s Catholic Church.
Walter was born on August 17, 1925 in Marshfield, to Walter and Luella (Desbrow) Noll, Sr. and was a graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II from November 17, 1943 until his honorable discharge on November 9, 1945. Stationed in Italy, he served as a tail gunner in the B-24 Liberator, completing 15 missions before the end of the war. He was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. He began serving in the Wisconsin National Guard, Red Arrow Division in 1947, attending schools at Fort Sill, OK and Fort Levenworth, KS. He left the National Guard in 1969 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He married Donna M. Machlett on May 17, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. She passed on April 28, 2014.
Wally had been employed at Roddis Plywood, which became Weyerhaeuser Corporation, for 36 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Elks Lodge #665 of Marshfield. As a young man he enjoyed fast pitch softball and later golfing, reading, billiards and fishing. One of his favorite sports was golfing, and he won the club championship at the Marshfield Country Club over a dozen times and also several times at River Green Country Club in Avon Park, FL.
He is survived by 5 children, Richard (Ann) Noll of Milwaukee, Sandra (Ron) Neumann of Marshfield, Kristine (Jerry) Morrison of Fayetteville, NC, Carole (Dennis) Lange of Columbus, WI, and Karl (Julie) Noll of La Crosse. He is further survived by 4 grandchildren, Cris (Kevin) Carolfi, Mark (Moriah) Neumann, Steven Godkin, and Kim Morrison and 6 great grandchildren, Kelly (fiancé – Zach Ament) Carolfi, Ryan Carolfi, Joe Carolfi, Jack Neumann, Harrison Neumann, and Haven Godkin.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Donna, a grandson, Edward Godkin and a son-in-law, Carl Godkin.
Memorials may be designated in his name to the Clark County Humane Society.
